Arabella Dragoescu is the oldest daughter of her family, born in Bozja. Her father is a high blood noble with a long history as one of the oldest mage families in the continent. Her other father (known affectionately as her papa) is a lowborn commoner who seeks to reform a new Bozja to be without kings or monarchy.She has a little brother named Nicolae, who is two years younger than her. Her family on her father's side is quite large, with many aunts, uncles, and cousins spreading through her tree. There is no known family from her other father's side.Five years before the Seventh Umbral Calamity, Arabella was in Bozja, avoiding an imperial education due to her family’s wealth and power, instead being tutored by private educators for her academics and personally by her father when it came to her magic. When the calamity struck, Bozja and the rest of Ilsabard went fairly unscathed due to the fall of Dalamud beginning in Eorzea, though she discovered just how the land was affected once she embarked to college in Ul'dah, attending the thaumaturge's guild with her younger brother.Her talents earned her attention from the Scions of the Seventh Dawn after her Echo awakened after a meteor shower on the night of her graduation.After eliminating the current Garlean threat, Arabella intended to return to Bozja before the Ul'dahn Revolution, and she was forced to take refuge farther north into Ishgard. After Heavensward, she wrote home informing her parents she would not be able to come home just yet, but come the end of the Dragonsong War, Arabella returned to Ul'dah and met with a surprise visit from her fathers. They had a very long talk about her place as the heiress to their fortune, bloodline, and magic. Her Papa seemed far more focused on her well-being as a Scion, while her father seemed pressured by his own parents and grandfather to see that Arabella would at least plan to return soon. Soon after, the events of Stormblood happened.It became a known fact in Bozja that the same Arabella “Warrior of Light” was also Arabella “heiress to the Dragoescu fortune & blood magic magedom”, and eventually Arabella “leading the Ala Mhigan campaign alongside General Aldynn and Commander Hext”. While she was looked at as a beacon of hope among Bozjan revolutionaries, it put a target on her family that no amount of wealth or ancient influence could manage. Her accolade led to the assassination of her cousin's wife. It tore inside Arabella, realizing that her continued heroism was causing incredible pain back home. Before she could make arrangements to retire from the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and continue her efforts elsewhere in Bozja, her fellow Scions collapsed and had their souls carried to the First, where she took up her blade to seek them out and bring Darkness back to the First.With the return of the Scions to the Source and waking G’raha Tia, Arabella returned to Bozja, where she began fighting in the Bozjan Southern Front. Once the resistance had broken through Delubrum Reginae, Arabella finally reunited with her family, where she took it upon herself to rebel from her great-grandfather by refusing her "inheritance" openly. She was forced to cut him down following his attempted summoning, thus liberating both her and the rest of her family from the expectations of history.

Arabella chooses kindness, which is the most important value about her.Her family comprises of mostly incredibly selfish vampires, that are at best ignorant rich people, and at worst are power hungry monsters. Her papa, lowborn and “otherly” to the world of the elite, taught her compassion and forwardness, and to value other people. Her father did not neglect her, nor did he try to force on her the violent nature of his family. He tried his best to shield Arabella from the expectations placed on her by the family, and taught her the hereditary magic with a lesson of open mindedness. What this unfortunately led to was pressure from her father to accept the gift of blood magic his way, for the way of their family was far more brutal and honed on violence.She loves her fathers very much. She knows that her father expects the best from her, and in turn, gives her the best. But she also knows that the expectations of her family are very selfish, even if it is offered to her rather than pressed upon. She is very scared of the reality of blood magic, knowing that it is far more dangerous than the healing magic she prefers to practise.Her relationship with Nicolae is incredibly fraught, with Nicolae’s insane jealousy and perception of Arabella’s “favouritism” from their parents souring his opinion of her. Arabella has tried to keep a positive disposition about her little brother, but witnessing the relationship between the Brutus siblings during Stormblood made her realize that Nicolae is not far off from turning on her like that. While she still protects him in Ul’dah and wants him back home with their parents, she worries about what he might become and what he might do if given the chance.Arabella is private about her family because of the circumstances surrounding them; she allows people to mistake her as a rich heiress, and doesn’t like to talk about the circumstances of whatever she will inherit. Money, certainly, but also a legacy of violent magic.The new death of her great-grandfather led to Arabella finally experiencing cathartic peace. She appears far less tense when matters drift towards family or future, and she now welcomes change and surprises far more.

Ultimately, he is not the Warrior of Light, but carries the same strength that his sister does. He is skilled in blood magic much like hers, and has an affinity for summoning egis of Eorzean primals.When the Ala Mhigan Revolution began and the Scions travelled into Gyr Albania and Othard, Nicolae was almost sent back to Bozja to be with the family once more — but he refused to return home for similar reasons to Arabella, invigorated by his jealousy over his sister’s inheritance. He assisted with the Alliance, and worked furiously to better himself over Arabella.He was taken to the First alongside other Scions, from a failed summoning attempt by the Crystal Exarch to summon the blood of Dragoescu. When he finally reunited with Arabella in the First, he felt a moment of genuine passion to work with his sister, having matured on his own in a world that did not carry expectations in the blood.When the siblings returned to Bozja, Nicolae was brought immediately to the family, and was manipulated by his great-grandfather to cooperate with him in getting Arabella home. Believing he was finally to be given that gift he dreamt about before, he went back on what changed him in the First— before his great-grandfather attempted to kill him, draining him of both aether and blood to power his own abilities.Nicole survived, yet found himself stripped of aether and a connection to the blood. He was finally free of the shackles of his family’s expectations, neither promised glory nor power from the burning Well that would consume him.

Nicolae is a brat. He is snooty, self absorbed, jealous of all and selfish, selfish, selfish. He likes to torment his sister and the people around him, while also trying to command attention. If one is capable of keeping up with an unpleasant person like him, they’ll find that he is quite a predictable person.When tasked with something, Nicolae will work towards it to perfection if it benefits him. He is susceptible to others manipulating a situation he is in by putting him on the path of success if he is led to believe he might benefit from it. He isn’t stupid or gullible— just easy to read.Nicolae is obsessive about his interests and loves to hang off people’s arms. Especially if he takes a liking to them. He is quite flirty, and obnoxious about it. He is THE toxic presence in all of his relationships. The consistent problem.He unlearns his spells of jealousy and resentment in the First— where he once saw others as obstacles, he tries now to understand them as people who simply exist around him, independent of his own goals. He is still quite selfish, but he is less liable to total violence and complete hatred of another for failing his expectations.

Blood Magic

Blood magic in Eorzea is believed to come from conjurers in Gelmorra who sought to manipulate the strength of aether in living bodies as opposed to the aether of the elements. In Bozja, this is very similar, with ancient mage-knights (of the land that would become the Republic of Landis) traveling across Ilsabard. Blood magic is seen as a very dangerous branch of magic, for it was not until recent mage scholars attempted to introduce healing properties for medical reasons.To become a blood mage, one simply can study to become one, much like those who pick up summoning, conjury, and thaumaturgy. It is not a hereditary magic (like being bitten by a vampire) but can be taught on an aetheric level through hereditary birth and therefore strengthen the ability of the practicing mage.While aether is considered the true essence of life among those on Hydaelyn, it is a blood mage’s belief that what flows inside the body can be used as a conduit of personal and external aether to empower magical abilities. A blood mage can use the blood of themselves or another being to cast spells - most forms of attack are done to ‘burn’ an opponent, like using acid and potent poisons. Blood can also be frozen and shaped into semi-solid weapons, like knives, and thrown by further manipulating aether. The blood does not have to be drawn from a wound to be used, but only skilled mages can surpass the barrier of flesh without first carving it.The hereditary nature of blood magic is as follows: (cw: ritualistic sacrifice)A blood mage who begins their practise can use the memory of their own blood to retain and pass on information. A ritual can be performed by two mages, usually teacher and student, where the teacher will carve into themselves to sacrifice the blood within their body. With special ritualistic cuts along their body to ensure complete draining of their blood, the blood is then forced into the receiving body, which is cut in a similar manner. This blood transfusion results in the mingling of aether, bringing the memories and knowledge of the sacrifice into the recipient. The memories and presence of the sacrifice enter the student and they are able to carry on their legacy. When the student chooses to sacrifice themselves in a similar manner, both they and their mentor’s memories will continue on in the new vessel. This forms a “blood well” in which memories and consciousnesses mingle together.Most blood mages are pressured to continue their legacy by the consciousnesses and the nature of their magic. Tomes can be destroyed, libraries can be burned. Knowledge is passed along but it loses its meaning as history grows. A personal recount can never be forgotten if aether is shared within the body. Your own personal Echo!Other individuals in the Well are not truly alive as separate personalities or their own individuals. It is the memory and wants that the vessel of these Wells can hear - a memory of an old language no longer spoken, and the want to be remembered. A vessel will never be able to willingly give up their lives without passing on their aether to another. Those inside will prevent them, and demand they join the collective if they do not wish to live. It is lingering in oblivion, witnessing the world only in pulls of your own memory.
